GAF Windows & Doors: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide
GAF windows and doors in West Palm Beach homes are popular for hurricane-impact ratings and clean sightlines, but the hardware is only as good as the parts holding the seal. We stock replacement rollers, hinges, weatherstripping, sash balances, and locking hardware for most GAF window and sliding-door lines, with installed replacements typically running $180 – $650 per opening depending on what failed. Most owners first notice the change as a window that suddenly fights back, a door that scrapes the track, or a room that feels damp the morning after a heavy Florida rain.
If your GAF window or door is hard to open, won’t latch, or lets daylight through where it shouldn’t, the fix is usually one specific part, not a whole new unit. That’s a good thing. We can match the part to your model, price it in writing, and have your opening working the way it did when your home was built.
Which GAF Models This Applies To

GAF’s windows and doors lines vary by series, and the parts are not always interchangeable, even between models that look identical from the inside. The most common lines we see in West Palm Beach include the GAF Impact-rated sliding patio doors, single-hung impact windows, and casement windows popular in newer Flamingo Park and Pineapple Park homes. Each carries its own hinge geometry, roller profile, and balance spring spec.
The fastest way to identify what you have is the label on the inside edge of the frame or the top rail of the door panel, usually a white sticker with the series code and date of manufacture. If that sticker has faded, we measure the part itself: roller diameter, track depth, hinge offset, and sash weight. For GAF doors, we generally recommend OEM rollers over generics because the track profile is slightly narrower than standard, and a wrong-sized aftermarket roller will chew the rail within months. For hardware like handles and locks, quality aftermarket equivalents from PGT or CGI often fit and carry similar warranties at a lower price. We’ll tell you which is right for the opening, and put the part name and number in writing before any work starts.

Signs Your GAF Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The door drags or grinds when you slide it. Usually a flattened roller or debris in the track. In West Palm Beach, fine beach sand gets into the lower track and ages rollers faster than anywhere inland. If left alone, the roller seizes and the track itself gets scored, which is a much larger repair.
- You can hear wind or see daylight at the sash edge. The weatherstripping or interlock has compressed. That gap is where salt-laden humidity enters, and over a season or two you’ll see it in higher cooling bills and possibly in the finish of the floor near the opening.
- The window drops when you let go or is suddenly hard to lift. A broken sash balance or a disconnected one. On GAF single-hungs, the balance spring is tuned to the sash weight; when it fails, the sash sits uneven, and the lock may no longer line up.
- You have to lift or push sideways to get the latch to engage. This points to hinge wear on casement or awning windows, or a bent door roller bracket. The latch itself may be fine, but the geometry of the panel has shifted.
- Condensation or water appears between the glass and the frame after storms. That’s the glazing bead or seal failing, not the glass. The opening needs to be re-bedded, or the frame joint sealed, before the subfloor around the door starts holding moisture.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

GAF parts replacement in West Palm Beach runs on a clear range. Single-part repairs like a roller, hinge set, or one sash balance typically land between $180 and $380 per opening, including the part, the labor, and a written scope before we begin. Full hardware replacement for a sliding door, including rollers, track cleaning, adjustment, and new weatherstripping, runs $450 – $650. Replacing both sashes’ balances on a large impact window with re-alignment typically falls in the $300 – $500 range. You’ll see the total before we open a toolbox.
Every job includes the Cedarwell Care Promise: drop cloths on the floors, shoe covers at the door, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. No charge for the basics, ever.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check the easy things yourself. Clear the track, look for a visible broken roller or a balance that’s come unhooked, and close the window to see if the latch lines up. That’s safe and useful. The point where DIY goes sideways on GAF units is the sash balance. These are tensioned springs, and on older models they’re under enough load to injure a hand or knuckle if released wrong. We don’t hand out step-by-step instructions for that. If it’s a roller or a piece of weatherstripping and you have the exact part in hand, you might try it. If you’re not certain what failed, call us at (728) 203-3270 and we’ll tell you what to look for before anyone schedules a visit.
FAQs

Rollers and weatherstripping in West Palm Beach typically last 7 to 12 years depending on exposure, a little less on the east side of town near the Intracoastal where salt air is steadier. Hinges and locking hardware often last the life of the opening if the unit was installed level. A well-installed GAF impact window that is kept clean at the track can give you 15 to 20 years of smooth operation before the first balance spring starts to feel tired.
Sometimes. We rebuild rollers rather than replacing them when the housing is still intact and only the bearing has failed, and welded rockers can be dressed back. But when the metal is worn or the spring has lost tension, replacement is the honest fix, and it’s usually less expensive than a second callout. Call (728) 203-3270 for an exact assessment, and we’ll price both paths if both are viable.
Most single-part replacements take 30 to 90 minutes once we’re at the home. A full sliding-door hardware refresh with track cleaning and new weatherstripping takes about two hours. We’ll give you a firm arrival window when you book, and the written price before we start.
We stock the most common GAF rollers, balances, weatherstripping, and locking hardware on our service vehicles, including aftermarket equivalents from PGT for some locking sets. If your part is unusual we can have it in hand within a few days from our supply partners. We will not install a part we’re unsure about just to close the job.
